5 Days Left to Claim Up to $500 in Settlement Cash From Walmart’s $45 Million Lawsuit

If you purchased “weighted goods” or “bagged citrus” from Walmart between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024, you may be eligible to claim a share of Walmart offered a $45 million settlement. You don’t even need proof of purchase to claim your part of the settlement. You’ll want to act soon because you only have seven days until June 5 to file your claim.

The lawsuit alleges that Walmart’s vending machines would artificially increase the weight of “weighed goods” when they were marked at a “return” price, resulting in a higher total price than the advertised discount.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that Walmart advertised and promoted the products in envelopes to weigh more than the actual weight of the item. Clearance products sold by weight, particularly with a “reduced price” sticker, also show a discrepancy between the advertised price per pound and what customers paid.

The term “weighed goods” refers to all items that do not normally have a fixed weight and are usually valued based on said weight. Examples of weighed goods include packaged meat, poultry, pork and seafood. “Citrus in bags” refers to bags of fruit such as oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit.

Walmart has denied any wrongdoing and according to NBC, paid the settlement to avoid a lawsuit. Walmart did not respond to CNET’s request for comment.
