Joe Biden is “ready to go” and feeling “confident” ahead of tonight’s debate, according to his wife Jill Biden.

She then made a brief stop at a Biden-Harris fundraiser in downtown Atlanta, where she told a group of supporters:
We’re almost there. I know Joe is ready to go. He is prepared; he is confident. You’ve all seen it today. You know what a big debate he is.

Final summary
We’re launching a separate live blog to cover tonight’s presidential debate. In the meantime, here’s a recap of today’s developments:
-
The Supreme Court issued three major rulings in cases involving OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, an EPA air pollution rule and abortion access in Idaho.
-
The court rejected Purdue Pharmathe bankruptcy settlement plan, which includes an emergency measure to protect the Sackler family owners from further liability for America’s opioid epidemic, in exchange for providing funds for compensation and rehabilitative treatment.
-
The court cleared the way to Idaho hospitals to provide emergency abortions, for now, under a procedural order that left key questions unanswered and potentially delayed a final decision until after the November election.
-
The court too decide to stop an attempt by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce harmful air pollution that flows across state lines.
-
U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon, who observes Donald Trumpcriminal prosecution for withholding classified documents, managed that he will schedule a hearing to consider the exclusion of key evidence that forms the backbone of the obstruction of justice portion of the case against the former president.

Donald Trump and Joe Biden arrived in Atlanta before tonight’s debate. Jill Biden, the first lady, will watch the debate from a separate room. It is not clear whether Melania Trump, the former first lady is in atlanta tonight.

We’ve come a long way from Milwaukee where we first started Republican presidential primary debate (without Donald Trump), the media was accommodated in a parking garage with outdoor pots.
For Joe Biden vs. Trump, reporters are seated high at Georgia Tech McCamish Pavilion, a sports arena in Atlanta at a venue known as the “Thrillerdome”. There are plenty of bathrooms and two concessions available: one sells hot dogs and giant pretzels; the other is Republican favorite Chick-fil-A.
The arena is emblazoned with the CNN logo. Every available video screen says “CNN Presidential Debate.” Downstairs, on what would normally be a basketball court, there is a bright red carpet, more CNN branding and a CNN stage where guests are interviewed. After the debate, this will become the melee known as the ‘spinning room’.
As spectacular as the setting is, the one thing reporters don’t see during the presidential debates are the candidates themselves. Biden and Trump will be in a nearby studio without an audience. Reporters will be watching on TV like everyone else.
On my way, I noticed that numerous surrounding roads were closed to traffic to create a security bubble. On the grassy mounds, I saw numerous signs for Biden and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—leaving Trump a poor third.

Gavin Newsom, the governor of California and a leading Biden surrogate, stopped to speak with reporters at McCamish Pavilion, an Atlanta sports arena that has been converted into a media center and spin room after the debate.
I asked Newsom what difference muted microphones and the absence of a studio audience can make.
“I have a bit of a bias because I have debate here in Georgia without an audience and it’s just better for the American people because now you’re not playing in front of an audience, you’re not just playing in front of a crowd in a room,” he said.
You have to create an engagement framework that speaks to a much larger audience, so that’s a very healthy thing to do. This is a very good thing for the Biden campaign. We’ll see how the same thing plays out with the microphone and talking over each other, which is part and parcel of bully Trump, so that’s a useful and healthy thing as well.
From my perspective, in many ways, Biden has already won this debate. First of all, it’s on his calendar, it’s on his timeline, he said, and Trump blinked at each individual category as it relates to the effort. I’ve been really impressed and inspired by Biden’s strategy so far.
I wondered if Biden might miss out the energy of the audience it fired him in the State of the Union address. But Newsom insisted:
Biden is a good debater. He has had many of these debates over many, many decades, so one should not underestimate them. It was telling that Trump’s campaign completely turned around in the last 72 hours, realizing that they had set the bar of expectations so low that if he even showed up at the podium, he was somehow assured of winning this campaign.
So they’re starting to panic a little bit in that regard, hedging bets, which is indicative of a little bit of a broader awareness that Biden is very effective in these formats. To be honest, I have huge confidence in the outcome tonight – the message, obviously, the record and, more importantly, the vision. I hope we get to that.
What you need to know about today’s debate
Joe Biden and Donald Trump will hold the first of two scheduled U.S. presidential debates on Thursday, a high-stakes rematch between two well-defined political foes.
The earlier-than-usual showdown will give both men a chance to make their case for a second term in front of one of the largest television and Internet audiences of the election cycle.
Thursday’s standoff also carries the risk that Americans already disaffected with their options will emerge even more horrified. Studies show extremely a tight race between the 81-year-old sitting president and the 78-year-old former US president – both candidates remain broadly unpopular.
The 90-minute debate is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM ET in a CNN studio in Atlanta.
Donald Trump was photographed getting off his plane after it landed at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Also seen exiting Trump’s private jet were his campaign advisers Stephen ChengJason Miller, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, as well as his former campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski and the congressman from Florida Matt Goetz.

This could be the moment when the rematch few seem to want finally comes to life: like two aging medalists, Joe Biden and Donald Trump will step into the political bloodsport arena Thursday night to resume a verbal sparring that will revive memories of the ugly exchanges when the two debated head-to-head four years ago.
A CNN studio in Atlanta will host the first presidential debate of the campaign between the same two candidates who competed in the last election, which Biden won.
With more than four months to go before Election Day in November, this is the earliest debate in any US presidential campaign to ever host a debate between the two primary candidates.
While some believe the timing is premature, it could provide a chance to open up a race that has been overshadowed by, among other things, Trump’s recent felony conviction and various other legal hurdles facing him 54 criminal charges for trying to overturn the last election and for keeping classified documents.
Both candidates are deeply unpopular: Trump because his opponents see him as an aspiring dictator who threatens democracy, Biden because at 81 (despite being only three years older than his Republican opponent) he is considered—even among many democrats – too old for another term as president.
Opinion polls show the race is essentially even, with the May and June national polling average showing candidates each 46%..
Studies in seven key battleground states – Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina — give Trump a slight edge, though usually within the margin of error.
NBC News” Sahil Kapoor it says that the debate hall is right next to the Kappa Sigma fraternity house in the Georgia Tech, who is currently hosting a party under a sign that reads “Make America DRUNK Again.”
