So James Vince didn’t get his first hundred of the season, in fact he didn’t even make double figures. Second wicket for OHD in Hant’s 238-6. Dawson 40 does not come out.

Another great moment from the field, Madsen initially slips away, grabbing Fernandez with both hands right in front of his face. Middx 187-5.

Alex Lees grabs the first century of the innings, with this Ollie Robinson on 52, Durham 267-3. Or it could actually have been John Simpson, now 101 not out in Sussex’s 258-5.

Some stats from the pundits in the friendly press at Lord’s – it was Simpson’s third championship of the season for Sussex, compared to 10 in 15 years at Lord’s. And Derbyshire have dropped 19 catches this season.

Door to the Lord and that’s the big one. Thomson is thrilled to get du Plooy for 57, who steps back, cuts and slips gratefully.

Derbyshire’s last championship victory was in July 2022 at New Road and at home in 2019.

I was sure there would be CCLive readers here yesterday

It was a joyous occasion and so many beautiful props from huge puppets to elaborate costumes. Similarly, it was great to see weather streaks across the Lord on Friday:

As part of their nationwide tour to shed light on the effects of climate change, the @Climate_Relay was hosted by MCC at Lord’s.

The relay runs 2,436km from Ben Nevis to Big Ben and aims to “raise awareness, celebrate great climate work and inspire action”.#LoveLords

(shame on JP Morgan etc etc)

Meanwhile in Canterbury, Kent recovered from losing Compton for 55, now 160-5.

Fifty for Leus du Plooy, underneath out, neat little forcing shot for four – off 94 balls. Middlesex 159-3 off 46 overs to date!

And a wicket for Shoaib Bashir in Worcestershire colours. Surrey 176-3 as Sibley is caught at mid-wicket. Unfortunately for Worcs, Jamie Smith is still there, sneaking away, on an unbeaten 82.

Notes have one foot on a banana peel, the other on a bar of soap. Now 192-7, Aldridge 4-49.

If you wish ssome afternoon, you can follow the progress of England v USA with Jim Wallace:

Sad to read about death of former Lancashire President Howard Bernstein aged 71. Bernstein stepped down only last month, handing over to Dame Sarah Storey, after ten years as president.

Lancashire Cricket Chairman Andy Anson said: “I am devastated to hear of Sir Howard’s death. He was my mentor, friend, and supporter for many years, and I will greatly miss his wise counsel, insight, and our frequent, entertaining exchanges. Our different footballing leanings have always been a source of amusing conversation and I know he will relish the fact that he has left us with the blue side of Manchester up front.”

Scott Curry denies it Ollie Carter a century, caught off his own bowling for 96. The best Carter’s fall within my understanding. Sussex 194-4 (three wickets for Holland).

Notts slip up against Somerset, losing two wickets in four runs from the comfort of 179-3. Both men are in good spirits, Clarke (51) and Haynes (55) gone. Two wickets for Aldridge, two for Pretorius

Ali looks up from her Caribbean rum punch holiday trial to tell CCLive readers that he thinks Sam Cooke will play Test cricket this year, the Kookaburra’s round winning it for the selectors.

Sibley and Smith added almost 100 since Pope suffered a rush of blood, fifties for both in Surrey’s 129-2.

To Edgbaston where Hampshire are 133-2. James Vince hasn’t made a century this season, could this be the day?

They are Sussex recovering well from 34-3 at Hove, with an unbeaten 63 from Ollie Carter in just his second Championship match of the year. Simpson a boundary-laden 40. Sussex 127-3.

The B team is making waves for Lancashire: two for Balderson, two for Bailey, Kent 109-4. Compton is holding things together with an unbeaten 50, just joined by Muyeye.

Brilliant catch and throw at Donald’s second slip, Holden fell for 36.

Fifties for Adam Leet, Fletcha Middleton and Alex Lees. Durham go-go at Chelmsford, with Simon Harmer’s eight overs costing 49.

Hopefully the photographer was able to capture some CCLive readers here:

Yorkshirewho are yet to win a game this season and sit just above Gloucestershire at the bottom of Division Two, are currently 98-0 against the visiting wooden spooners.

Eaton Bosch arrival at Essex coincides with Ben Allison’s two-match Championship loan to Worcestershire and Sam Cooke’s hamstring injury, along with the possibility that he could be tried out as Anderson’s replacement in the Test squad.

Anderson, whose final Test is fixed at Lord’s in mid-July, has one last chance of four-day cricket next week, in Southport against Nottinghamshire. He traveled to Canterbury with Lancashire yesterday but did not play. Kent is currently 76-2.

And Stoneman chased wide at Lord’s, a super catch from the away man at the slip.

Email! Hello Geoff Wignall: “It’s good to have some red ball action as the nights draw in” [Wash your mouth our right now.]

Re, “Zack Crowley-less Kent off to better start than usual…”: are these two things related?”I couldn’t comment.

However, Lancashire hit back with a wicket each for Balderson and Bailey. Kent 64-2.

Good spread of peoplee basking in the sun in the crowd today, with the promise of beer to come. Middlesex 63-1, ace Derbyshire labor through their oversea.

Ollie Pope confuses his Pom bears with his minions Morceaux, charges down the door and is caught slipping, Surrey 42-2.

In the second division, several early wickets for James Harris at Sophia Gardens, including the dangerous Prithvi Shaw. Marnus plays for Glamorgan. Northants 40-2.

Stoneman and Holden are growing more confident on the field within close range of the Taverna grandstand. Middx 38-1.

Ian Holland race through Sussex, 34-3, Haynes, Alsop and Coles all back to the pavilion.

Both Leith and Bean go through the gears at Scarborough v Gloucestershire, Yorks 45-0.

Gary Naylor with the latest what’s what and who’s who in Blast.

A sunny stroll through Division One in half an hour:

Durham are 30-0 at Chelmsford after winning the toss.

Kent, without Zac Crawley, got off to a better start than usual with 32-1 against Lancashire.

Craig Overton just bowled HH for 15, Notts 26-1.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby grabs an early wicket for Hampshire, Albert for five.

And Rory Burns falls on the third ball of the day at New Road, but Ollie Pope and Dom Sibley have already hit a couple of boundaries, each in their own distinctive way. Surrey 29-1.

Middlesex found themselves in even hotter water when they were accused by the cricket regulator on Friday of “breaching ECB Directive 3.3”. The allegations against CFO Ila Sharma include an incident where the club’s mascot Pinky The Panther was groped at a Blast game in 2022.

Reminded by BTL that Durham’s Bryden Carrs is currently serving a three-month ban from cricket for betting on games.

While Zak Chapple terrifies Middx kicks, a beer festival buzz during this game at Coronation Gardens: “real ale in casks for draft beer from breweries around London.”

Oh my God, Sam Robson goes for 0.

Do it just in time to the Lord’s press box where there is cucumber in the ice water and the coffee is strong. Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat as they did around the Northants, Hampshire, Notts and Durham grounds.

Some rotten news from Gloucestershire last week:

Afghanistan beat Australia!

It just beeps USA beating Pakistan in surprise World Cup win:

Preamble

Good summer morning! I should be at Lord’s with a coffee in one hand and a scorecard in the other, but the Sunday service on South Western trains means I’m currently puffing towards Waterloo. It should be there for the throw…

But enough of that, welcome to this two round trivia of county cricket when the sun is high and the nights are short. Enough to raise your red ball temperature during a continuous diet of T20 World Cup and Vitality Blast.

A lot to look forward to – Yorkshire take on Gloucestershire in sunny Scarborough, great Surrey visit New Road, where Shoaib Bashir is on loan at Worcestershire, Jimmy Anderson is not back at Canterbury, where Lancashire hope to restart their red-ball season, and Surrey-chasers Essex entertain Durham.
